TEST PILOT SPOTLIGHT: KYLE FOYLE

TEST PILOT SPOTLIGHT: KYLE FOYLE

Name: Kyle Foyle

Occupation: North Shore Lifeguard

Location: Sunset Beach, HI

Passions: I’m passionate about everything in the ocean—surfing, bodysurfing, diving (spearfishing), etc. If I’m not in the water, I’m training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, and Muay Thai.

What’s your discipline?

My main disciplines are surfing and Jiu-Jitsu/MMA. I’m a fitness fanatic, so I’m constantly in the ocean, out on the trails (where my wife and son love to go), or on the mats with my family, always trying to be the best version of myself.

What is the next challenge for you in the outdoors?

I’m always striving to get better in the water—whether that’s surfing, lifeguarding, or on the mat doing martial arts. But I’d say my newest challenge is learning to snowboard, which is pretty tough considering I was born and raised in Hawaii. My son really loves it, and even though we started at the same time, I already have to work hard to keep up with him!

What accomplishments are you most proud of in your discipline?

I’m most proud of being a veteran lifeguard and a lieutenant for the Ocean Safety Department here on the North Shore of O‘ahu. I’m also proud of achieving my black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu—and of being a dad and husband. That’s not necessarily an “accomplishment,” but more of a constant challenge I’m honored to have!

What piece of FLORENCE gear do you test the most?

Hands down, the best boardshorts I’ve ever had are the new Cordura Airtex Boardshorts. I’ve been wearing boardshorts since I learned how to walk, and these are my favorite—they’re super lightweight and fitted, but still built to handle rough conditions and daily use. I also just tested some of the fleece and jackets in Alaska, and it was the first time I wasn’t freezing!
